DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore graduated its inaugural class of students in a ceremony held at its campus on June 23, 2012, contributing its first cohort of highly skilled creative professionals to Singapore’s growing technology and media industries.
The 12 candidates for graduation began their studies at DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore in September 2008 and finished DigiPen’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Production Animation program in May 2012. Prior to completing their studies, the graduating students participated in a three-week Overseas Immersion Program at DigiPen Institute of Technology’s Redmond, Washington, campus, where they created an official promotional animation for the City of Redmond that was screened before Redmond Mayor John Marchione. Upon graduating, DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore’s students will enter a flourishing segment of the global economy. Worldwide, the game industry is projected to grow from an estimated $59.5 billion in 2010 to $70.1 billion in 2015, and Singapore’s video game industry has already grown to comprise more than 62 game development, publishing, and services companies. One DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore graduate has accepted a position at Tecmo Koei Singapore, and a number of others have interviewed for positions with Ubisoft Singapore.
“As the global media landscape continues its trend towards digitization, the demand for digital media professionals will continue to grow,” said Mr. Jayson Goh, Executive Director of the Infocomms & Media Division of the Singapore Economic Development Board. “As a leading institution in digital media training, DigiPen is an important partner in the development and growth of Singapore’s digital media industry. The graduation of its pioneer cohort is a significant milestone for DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore, and we look forward to the school graduating more world-class talent in the years ahead.”
