Notification of Absence
If you will be absent from a particular class, you must notify the concerned instructor in writing through email. For your excused absence application to be processed, you are required to provide valid documentary proof issued by relevant authorities. This means getting a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner or a dentist registered with the Singapore Medical Council or the Singapore Dental Council.
Degree students:
- Notify your lecturer via email of your absence.
- Apply for a Short Leave with SIT via IN4SIT within seven calendar days from the date of your medical certificate or valid document.
- Submit materials via SRS within seven calendar days from the date of your medical certificate or valid document. You must select the specific class and date that you are applying for.
For cohorts before AY2020:
- Notify your lecturer via email of your absence.
- Submit materials via SRS within seven calendar days from the date of your medical certificate or valid document. You must select the specific class and date that you are applying for.
In the final week of the trimester (Week 14), the application must be submitted to registrar.sg@digipen.edu within 24 hours of the missed attendance.
Among the acceptable reasons for an excused absence are as follows:
- Government statutory requirements (e.g., court hearing/subpoena, military call up)
- Illness
- Death in the immediate family
Any other reasons from those listed above will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Late submissions will not be accepted unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Unsatisfactory Attendance
Whether excused or unexcused, absences should not exceed 20% of the total required class sessions during any trimester. Absences of more than 20% may require advising by the Student Life and Advising Counselor and/or the instructor. Students absent from all classes for a period of 14 consecutive days may be withdrawn from the Institute as of their last day of attendance.
